No. 3 Arizona State had three golfers among the top five individuals to help grab a five-shot lead on the first day of the 31st annual Amer Ari Intercollegiate on Thursday at the Hapuna Golf Club.
The Sun Devils turned in a score of 20-under-par 268, which doesn’t include the score of co-medalist leader James Leow, who fired a 7 under 65. Lowe is playing as ASU’s No. 6, leaving him out of the team scoring. Leow shares the tournament lead with teammate Mason Andersen for the defending Amer Ari team champs.
Arizona State is five shots ahead of No. 11 ranked Texas Tech, No. 21 Washington, and No. 4 Oklahoma State, all at -15. The tournament features 10 of the top 25 NCAA Division I teams in the country.
Host UH-Hilo and the UH-Manoa are tied for 18th with scores of 20 over 308. Keith Ng leads the Vulcans after shooting a 1 over 73, while Tyler Ogawa had the same score for the Rainbow Warriors. The only other player near par for UHH was Andrew Otani with a 75.
